Awkwafina has been described as an American performer and actor who started her career through innovative raps which addressed gender and ethnic identities from a the most comical of perspectives. She then expanded to Hollywood. Nora Lum is the daughter of Chinese as well as Korean parents from Forest Hills Queens. The trumpet was the first instrument she played for her. Her classical, jazz and hip-hop studies began when she was just a teenager. At college, she was studying journalism and women's studies. Then, she even had a short time studying Mandarin during her time in Beijing. Her focus shifted to music only after she graduated. Her track in 2012 My Vag a response to Mickey Avalon's My Dick found viral success across the Internet and was later released on her debut album Yellow Ranger in 2014. Other viral hits included the Queef track and the eye-catching NYC Bitche$ hometown tour. The song was specifically linked to The Awkwafinas Guide to NYC, her guide to travel in 2015.
